First stop: Aegina, built amphitheatrically towards the sea. The church of St. Nicholas “Of the Sea” at the harbor entrance is combined with the neoclassical buildings of the city and this will give the visitor their moneys’ worth from the first look. You can use the carriages or just walk around to get to know the picturesque streets of the island, surrounded by colorful houses and tidy gardens or you can enjoy delicacies and traditional sweets at the taverns and cafes by the beach. Great interest, from an archaeological point of view, shows the Temple of Aphaia, while a very famous orthodox monastery is that of St. Nektarios “the Wonderworker”, whose relic is openly displayed for worship. Before leaving the island don’t forget to buy fresh peanuts, produced only in Aegina.
In the small and beautiful island next to Aegina, Agkistri, you will feel like you are visiting heaven on earth. You can spend time relaxing, swimming in the clear blue waters of the Saronic Gulf or wandering the hillsides full of plants.
On the way back you will have the opportunity to live a unique experience … sailing across the Corinth Canal!
