After you fill up on energy the adventure’s first stop is at the Corinth Canal, which connects Aegean Sea to Ionian Sea. After this short stop we are heading to the “Very Rich” city of Mycenae, as Homer said. There you will admire the vaulted tombs of famous kings of the Trojan War, the Lions’ Gate, the royal palace and other archaeological findings that constitute one of the greatest and oldest civilizations that flourished in Greece.
Leaving Mycenae, the trip continues to the first capital of modern Greece, the picturesque and seaside city of Nafplio. There you will find a colorful setting of monumental neoclassical mansions, cobbled streets and Venetian castles. The famous Palamidi fortress stands on top of the town. A short stop to take pictures is also planned and then the trip continues to historical Epidaurus.
Ancient Epidaurus is a World Heritage Site and home to great archaeological findings that’s why thousands of people from around the globe visit it every year. According to mythology and the poet Hesiod, Asclepius, God of Medicine, was born there and in his name the famous Asclepiion infirmary was built, one of the most famous health institutions of ancient Greece and the whole Mediterranean region, because of the many and serious cases that were cured there. The infirmary was the reason for the rapid development of the city and due to that, in the 4th century BC, the famous and worldwide known Ancient Theater of Epidaurus was built. This construction is known to be the most perfect sample of an ancient theater in Greece and one of the most amazing ones in the world, from a symmetry and perfect acoustics point of view.
